Hello,

I’m an accounting major and I’m trying to decide if I should major in Economics as well. I’m already an Econ minor, and to be a major I just need 3 more classes because my financial accounting and managerial accounting classes count for the major. Instead, I could take other useful classes like Business Programming, or an Accounting elective that will help me with theCPA test, or an advanced finance class.

Is it better to double major or take different elective classes?

It really depends on you. I would go with the Double major

All things being equal, it is better to have a double major. But you should really think more about your long term career goals. If you are sure that you want an accounting career, your best approach is to take as many accounting classes as possible and get the best grades that you possibly can in these classes. Your passion for the field and your GPA will be key factors in getting a job. Having a double major might be a nice plus, but probably won’t be decisive.

If you are less sure of your future career track, then the double major starts to make more sense. It broadens the type of jobs you could look for and gives you more options.
