Is it better to transfer from a CC or a Uni?

So I just rejected UC Davis (3k/per) thinking that if I go to a PCC I will have a better chance of going to a better college. But now that I’m reading, it seems like most people are doing uni transfers. I can still attend NAU, if its better to attend a uni and transfer. So my question is which will give me a better chance if I want to transfer to a LAC, assuming that I’ll get 3.5+ in both schools.

it depends, but i don’t think it’d hurt one way or the other. some schools – like first tier lacs and ivy leagues – look for cc transfers for diversity. just don’t goof off simply because you’re at a cc.

A question like this depends on many factors. For example, if you were trying for UCLA or Berkeley, going to a CC is the better option. However, California is rare in that regard; most states have different systems, and California is odd in that it has both the UC and CSU systems.

Since you want to go to a LAC, I would say that the most important factors are showing diversity of courses, an emphasis on liberal arts subjects, recommendations from professors, and your essays. If you have these things down well with a decent GPA (3.5+ is always ideal), I see no reason for you to have a hard time. Just bear in mind that this is advise which is unique to your situation. If you wanted to get into UCLA or Stanford, the advice would be different.

To conclude with an answer to your question: for a LAC, it probably does not matter as much as other factors. Unless you’re able to go to a public LAC prior to transferring, which would be more like your goal, I do not see any serious advantages of transferring as a Uni over a CC student or vice versa.
