Is it BS to only have community awards

only my application apart from one fbla award everything else is community service like just put in hours and i will get the award. is that BS and should i even include it like I literally have the congressional award, president volunteer award, and innerview award which are ALL so easy to get if you just put in hours.

is it BS and does it make me less compeptive as an applicant. i was honestly planning on maybe taking ourt the preisdent volunteer award and replacing it with like an asl certification i got online and cpr certification i got from red cross instead because it feels like more diverse than just 3 community awards.

idk give me some tips for honors section! planning to ed duke too so scared of they hyper-comepeitive applicant pool

If you have awards that you feel are meaningful, you can list them. People list fluff awards because it’s hard to have awards - you don’t get an award for serving ice cream at Baskin Robins or walking dogs at the shelter.

Far more important than awards is what you accomplished - tenure and impact.

It sounds like you’ll have that too.

Other than that, I think you are over thinking but what you did will be more important - as will get your grades, SAT, LORs, essay, etc.

Good luck.

“Just put in the hours” is not nearly as easy as you make it sound.

I am assuming that during those hours you did something that was useful and valuable to your community. This is a big deal.

For highly ranked universities such as Duke and Yale, your ECs will matter. The best EC is the EC that is right for you. If helping your community is right for you, then this is a great EC.

Also, if everyone is trying to compete with everyone, a modern society does not really work. We need cooperation. We need people who are helping each other. It looks like you are doing just that. I am confident that university admissions understands this.

Exactly. Your letters of reference will mention this.

Duke and Yale are reaches for pretty much everyone (not including students for whom they are just out of reach). You also need safeties.

However, do not worry about your ECs. Just keep doing what is right, make sure that you apply to safeties, keep your budget in mind, and this will work out one way or another.
