I want to get into University of Illinois (UIUC)'s business program. I slacked off in high school so I plan to go to a community college first and then transfer. I did great on my standardized tests though…

Is it really hard or do I have a realistic chance? I plan to get straight As. Thanks

I am an IL resident thank you. I do plan to attend an IL CC.

Are you an IL resident? If so, there should be a pretty straightforward path from IL CC to UIUC. Although business programs can be more selective than the university in general, so you should check the college website and talk to your CC advisor next fall.

again, I slacked off during high school (underachiever), so my grades weren’t too good. But I’m an intelligent guy and I did great on my standardized tests.

It’s also been a few years since I graduated from high school. In the mean time, I started an relatively successful online business. I want to finish my education at UIUC. I wonder if my entrepreneurship will help my chances when it comes to the business program?

I’ve also taken some courses at my CC so far and gotten As…

thanks for any advice

If you are an IL resident then you should have no problems getting accepted. You should go to your cc website and search under “guaranteed admission agreements” and see what you need to do (your school will also have some “articulation agreements”). Most state schools will want you to compete gen.ed requirements or complete your AS or AA before applying (Virginia prefers that you have an associates, I don’t know about IL). You should meet with a cc transfer counselor you’ll need to transfer (often this means choosing your intended major now).

Your HS record really matters little when you are transferring in as a junior level. It does matter however when you are applying after only 1 year of cc work. You still will be sending all transcripts, but it sounds like your test scores will help a bit. If you craft a really great essay and somehow convey the maturity that you’ve gained, then I think you’ll be fine (if you get mostly A’s). :).

You have a good chance. The Business school is harder to get in to though, so try buffing up your resume with an internship or something

Plan on getting an associates degree; then your gen ed credits will transfer. Look for ‘articulation’ agreements at your CC. I’d repost this question at the UIUC forum.

If you receive a transfer degree you shouldn’t have any problems, as long as you get decent grades of course. Also you’ll save on the first two years of tuition, which does really add up. i transferred to my uni from a community college and am happy i saved two years on tuition and transferring was a fairly smooth process just stay in touch with your advisor and make sure your taking the right classes to transfer. good luck
