Is it disappointing if you’re talking to someone and they don’t watch any sports or isn’t into any sports teams? Like if during a convo you said “so do you watch football?” and I said “no”…then you said “oh what about baseball?” and I said “nah”…would you think I lived in a rock? I don’t know any of the players or the teams.

But I do look really athletic though – I love playing extreme sports like skimboarding, wakeboarding, snowboarding, etc… It’s just that I don’t follow any of the “American Pasttimes” like football, baseball, and even basketball. I’ve just never been interested in watching football or baseball. I love playing it with friends though…just not watching. I also never felt a bond with any teams like some Yankee or Red Sox Fans.

Or what if during a date you said to someone “wow, Favre really got killed the other day!” and they said “haha I don’t really watch football” would you be disappointed?

exactly how i feel man! I love playing sports but i hate watching them. But I noticed A LOT of new people I talk to…they’d be like “hey man you watch football? what did you think of the packers last night?” and I’ll say “not really” then they look all disappointed and kind of stop talking to me haha.

Haha, for some reason, this made my day.
I guess some people are weird about that sort of thing, but it makes no difference whatsoever to me whether someone watches sports or not.

“Did you see the Steelers last night?”
“Yeah! Dennis Rodman is one of the top pitchers in the entire NHL! He should definitely make cheer captain next year.”

Honestly though dude, I’d just go to ESPN, look up your team, see who they’re playing that week, then check the final score. Then you can just be like “yeah they totally owned X team” or “Y team massacred them.” That’s usually enough to satiate it.

What else are you into though? Look for people who you think would share similar interests. Or if you want to learn more about the NFL, you could just be like “honestly man, I don’t know much about football; could you show me the ropes some time?” or some **** like that.

your mileage may vary. If you go to a big football school then you had better follow the progress of your team, go to games, learn who the players are, and follow their news.

Do you WATCH those extreme sports as well? That could save you in conversation if you just mention you’re into watching/playing those sports rather than football, baseball, etc.

Sports is a big social bond for guys and in school/work, sports is definitely one of those convo topics that builds rapport. I’d recommend that you start following sports somewhat just so you’re not out of the loop.

I am a woman who is very into sports, but I could care less if any of my guy friends don’t follow sports. Heck, my boyfriend HATES watching sports (he still gets dragged along though whenever I go to a game). A very large chunk of guys who talk about sports have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about anyway (they’re just repeating tidbits they’ve heard), so skip the BS and talk about something you’re both interested in.

It’s not disappointing to me if a guy doesn’t watch sports. It’s disappointing if he doesn’t know anything about them. Almost everybody I know has at least a somewhat rudimentary knowledge of at least one sport.
