I know it’s no easy task by any means but is there a better chance of being accepted as a transfer? I’d be transferring into my Junior year there.

I’d say there would probably be more of a chance if you were transferring as a sophomore. A lot of colleges in general don’t really like transfers that are only going to do two years at their school. Plus a lot of them have transfer credit maximums, which I would double check on, it could take you back to being a sophomore anyways.

A friend of mine transferred there sophomore year who was not originally accepted for freshman entry.

It’s actually easier to get into RISD as a freshman, since they take only a handful of transfer students each year. Being accepted as a transfer student – especially as a junior – is very dependent upon where and what you studied during your first 2 years of college. Even with a solid studio art background, you are more likely to be given sophomore standing only, at least initially, but then you may petition for advancement after completing your first semester at RISD:

From what I’ve seen they accept about 30% of transfers, so not that much less than freshman.

The overall acceptance rate for transfers does not tell you much, though. The vast majority of transfers go into the sophomore class (and many of them are required to take the “crash” course in Foundation Studies over the summer in order to catch up). Most RISD majors have a very rigid sequencing of classes, so trying to transfer in as a junior is much more difficult since: (1) there needs to be studio space available in that particular department, and (2) the student has to have already taken the equivalent of the intro courses in that major. That’s why most transfers accepted are sophomores. Unless the junior is transferring from a similar BFA program, he/she will lose too many credits and will end up having to stay an extra year for the degree.

I was just responding to you saying that they only take a handful of transfers…

worried_… chill
you do not have to micro manage and correct everyone about everything concerning RISD.
say, people know that chicken fried stake is made out of usually beef, you do not have to point out it is not chicken. numbers and percentage are not set in stone, gabbyness did not say it is made out of chicken.
So are the Florida med girl who could not transfer into dual degree, animator wannabe girl who wanted to take “law” class at Brown, Ivy worthy art kid who you desided not “passionate” enough to major in art.
there are better way to help yougums’ really, you can learn from drae, greenwitch, even from taxguy.
It is about time you should relax, stop reading Brown newspaper or following RISD gossip.
Live your life, please.

b&d, I am quite relaxed and happy with my life. Thank you for your concern.

you are welcome, thou I never said you are unhappy, 'cus I know you are THE happiest when you write those “let me correct you” posts.
what’s for dinner? chicken fried steak? ( is this now spelled right? correct me if I am wrong)
