I’m about to finish my third year at UMD in EE; UMD is one of the top public schools in the nation for engineering.
I am struggling in this major, and was wondering if transferring to a mid-tier college for engineering (Temple) would be a better fit for me.
After 3 years you’re past the point of no return on transferring.
@Mandalorian can you clarify what that means? I did contact the dean and went on Temple’s website, and both said Temple accepts any amount of transfer credits (not just from only 1 or 2 years).
@SunnyRose- It depends on the school, but generally speaking transfers are done after 2 years not 3. Many schools do not accept upper division transfer credits. Transferring after 3 years can seriously delay graduation.
At this point you’re better off just sticking it out and graduating. Your GPA is pretty much set at this point, regardless of what you do. Nor is the GPA terribly important. As long it is a 3.0 or above, it doesn’t matter.
From what I have read on this website, ABET accredited engineering programs are challenging wherever you attend. The tier doesn’t seem to matter much. Perhaps academic support of some kind at your school is a better place to look for help with your academic struggles rather than changing schools.
