Is it easy to get to Golden Gate Park?

I’m from Chicago but have been to San Fran many times, and love GG park. I’d love to chill down by the ocean sometimes…

from berkeley? w/o a car you would have to BART (23 minuntes) and then take the bus or muni (a half hour plus). The beaches north of GGP are nicer though (Baker Beach, the Presidio beaches). Buses and munis go there too. Best would be to drive there, or to Marin (same amount of time, more spectacular nature) for a day in the woods/beaches followed by a dinner and drinks across the GG Bridge in SF then back to Berkeley through the Bay Bridge.

It’s doable, but it’s not a verys short treck- you would probably expect, via public transportation, between half an hour and an hour, I’d say.

Take BART downtown Berkeley to Powell Street Station. Then take Muni line 5 -Fulton from 4th and Market Street. 5 Fulton goes by the Richmond side of GG park all the way to the Ocean Beach.

It’s a little more than a solid hour door to door from Berkeley all the way out to the GGP beaches. SF busses are slow. I lived out in the Richmond district for a while and had friends who visited from campus. On the other hand, for nightlife, North Beach, SOMA and the Mission are straight off the BARt stations and only 23 minutes ride from Berkeley. The only problem is that it only runs till 12:25am.

But once you’re settled at Cal, you’ll find friends who have cars and will explore the area in the spare time and school breaks.

HOLLER i live 3 blocks from golden gate park, and i take it for granted!!
