Is it easy to switch from anthropology to a media major?

The University of Texas at Austin’s media major is part of the Moody College of Communication, while the anthropology major is part of the College of Human Ecology. If I apply with an anthropology major and transfer to a media major after admission. Is there any resistance to switching from anthropology to media major?

There’s clearly a path. Whether it’s realistic who knows…you can talk to a transfer advisor.

Are you already in at UT Austin or are you trying to gain an easier entry.

Don’t game the system - apply for your preferred major up front.

Edit you asked the same with UGA. Don’t game.

Good luck.

I do not understand whether you already applied as an anthropology major and have already changed your mind, or if you are trying to “game the system” by applying to what you think might be an easier major for admissions.

If the latter, my recommendation is that you apply for the major that you want. Then attend a university that accepts you, is a good fit, and is affordable.

On the other hand if you have already applied as an anthropology major and have changed your mind about your intended major, then I think that you should ask the university itself whether you can change majors. I do know of at least one example of someone who was accepted to a university with one major, and was able to change their major before they even decided whether or not to attend that particular university. The university sent them a second acceptance letter for the second major. However, whether you can do this will be up to the university. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

If it’s the latter, I recommend applying to the major you truly want. If you’ve already applied as an anthropology major and want to switch, ask the university if they allow changing majors before deciding whether to attend.
