Sorry if this post is random or if it’s too early/inappropriate to ask this question. I feel like the past month is kind of rough and it’s hard for me to figure out information and directions I have.
I’m an international high school graduate, coming out of school with kind of “satisfactory” score: barely get an IB Diploma(26), having a 95 in TOEFL and 1190 in new SAT. For my love of Japan’s music and doujinshi industries, I always wanted to kick off my undergraduate life in Japan, but in the same time I would like to find a English-speaking university because I don’t think my Japanese skills is high enough yet to conduct academic studies. It happens that Temple University have a campus in Japan, and it later become my only dream choice as it offers American education in a place I love, which is exactly what I want. So I submitted an application there but it didn’t go well, and soon I will attend an university in California with similar rankings.
The problem for me is that, I don’t really think I can get to use with the way Americans live, since I lived in Vancouver for three months and I just can’t fit into the kind of life where a car is required to do basically anything, and everything is just grouped in a small area far away from where you live. And with some personal and family conflicts about applying to Japan universities during these past two years, I feel like I’m kind of waited enough and I want to move to Japan as soon as I can.
Since Temple Japan allows me to submit an application again when I got 15 credits from other universities, what I currently planned for my first semester is to try my best at math and academic writing, attend some somewhat-related electives like Japanese language, and apply to Temple again as soon as my semester ends. But I’m not sure if my plan is good, or if transferring after just one semester is good in the first place: Is it common to transfer after just one semester? Should I talk with my AA about my situation as soon as I arrive to the university? Will my high school score still has a higher proportion in transfer application, providing my scores in high school are so-so? Do I have other directions to make my application look better, like retaking the SAT or something else?
Thank you for your comments.
