Is it hard to get into a study abroad program? (specifically UCEAP)

If you meet all the requirements, GPA, class standing, ect. is it possible to be rejected from the program? I’ve submitted my application, and I have to write a statement of purpose paper, which is said to be used in the decision making process.
I’m somewhat worried because I’m applying to a program that I’m dying to go to, as a freshman. I’ll have junior standing, but I’m a first year nonetheless.

I’m not UCEAP, but from what I’ve been told you only get denied if you don’t meet GPA, class standing, and mental capacity requirements, in other words you have to be mentally sound enough to go abroad. Professors have to think you can take care of your self and do good in your classes in a foreign country. They don’t want to send someone to their partners overseas just to have them come running home to mommy when the running gets tough. That’s why you need a statement of purpose and generally a couple of letters of rec from professors. But yes you can be denied. I haven’t heard of it happening to anyone, but it is possible, though unlikely.
