<p>D has participated in science fair in Jr high and as a freshman in HS, but has not really been ‘into’ it. Her ideas for projects tend to be more elaboate and involved than we can finance or find materials/equipment for, so she settles for a project that is more doable.
Next yr science fair will be optional and she is not planning to participate. She has always been interested in science and it seems likely that she will want to major in something science related in college. Is it important that she participate in science fairs in HS?</p>
<p>Science fairs are just one way to demonstrate in interest in science. There are many others - clubs, internships, tutoring others, doing research, working in a clinical environment - to name just a few of the more obvious ones.</p>
<p>If your daughter isn’t keen on science fairs, explore the other possibilities with her. It’s not just reasonable, but actually advantageous, for her to explore other ways to put her interest in science to work.</p>
