I really have no interest in Rice University but the ironic sterotype of me (asian) attending Rice is so hilarious that I’m very tempted…

I’d like a chance just to see if I should even bother to apply (Rice is prob too good for me…)

I’m not sure I understand the point of your post. If you have no interest in Rice, then don’t apply … and don’t waste our time in asking about your chances.

No, you’ve got it all wrong. I’ve never been intrigued by Rice but it is starting to grow on me. I just wanted a chance so I see if I should apply or not.

You shouldn’t apply to a school if you’re not interested in it. If you, by some miracle, got in, you’d be taking the spot away from someone else who might have had his/her heart set on going there. I agree with blackeyedsusan - I really don’t understand the point of your post since, as you yourself admitted, you “really have no interest in Rice University.”

If he really had no interest in Rice whatsoever, he wouldn’t have made a chances thread. At least he’s being honest that it’s a new interest that he may or may not pursue. It’s probably a low reach/ high match for you. Your SAT/ACTs could be higher, but as long as you write good essays, you’ll have a fairly decent shot.

If (s)he had some interest in Rice University (s)he wouldn’t have said “I really have no interest in Rice University”. Just saying.

Anyway, you have average chances. Your stats/ECs are average. Good, but nothing special. If you apply, make sure it’s because you would honestly like to go to Rice. Not because Asians eat rice (omg so funny).

As one of the few people scared about the admission process, I see that applying to a school just because you have a feeling that you will get in is just plain WRONG! I may be blowing this out of porportion but dont create a title and a subheading on a college’s forum stating that you dont want to go here but because I think I am so great I might as well apply…

You probably won’t come when you get admitted

You will be lowering the yield rate

You will be possibly taking a valuable spot away from borderline applicants.
Seriously, don’t apply if you are the one who typed the first sentence in your post.

He did say “it’s growing on me”, which indicates interest… Give him a break, guys; if he wants to apply he applies.

I’ve just recently discovered Rice University, and as an Asian, the irony did occur to me. I’ll probably put a “Got Rice?” bumper sticker on my car if I end up here (I’m sure there are a lot of Asians and we aren’t the only ones…).

I can’t speak for the OP(although he’s probably in a similar situation that I’m in), but I’m just another kid looking at colleges that happened to notice some funny. Although it’s not THAT funny.

I think your chances aren’t bad. Just make sure you thoroughly get to know the school and be sure you’d be happy there before you apply. And be smarter about what phrases you use on this forum, lest 10 dozen people quote you to death. lol
