Is it Necessary to Visit Schools?

Hey CC,
So next fall I’ll be transferring to either University of Arizona or University of Oklahoma since Emory doesn’t offer my major or potential minor. I’m probably going to University of Oklahoma, since I don’t like the Arizona heat and OU seems better connected to resource industries, but haven’t visited either institution. I was wondering if going to Oklahoma sight unseen would be a bad idea, or if it really doesn’t matter. I can afford both OU and UA and took virtual tours of both institutions and can picture myself at either one.

It obviously wouldn’t hurt to visit. That might give you a better feel of the people there too, which is important. Maybe, if you can only swing one visit, visit OU because it sounds like you’re leaning towards that? Although if you’re confident in your transfer decision, it might not be totally necessary.

I’d say visiting OU would be a very strong idea because honestly it can’t do anything but help you. If you visit there and hate it for some reason then you’ve saved yourself A LOT of heartache and regret, contrariwise if you love it, the visit would reaffirm your decision and probably add a nice element to your transfer essay, albeit unoriginal.

Hey, if you haven’t visited OU, or can’t, I go there (lived in Norman my whole life) and would be happy to answer any questions about it or the campus. I’ll say this: I don’t think summers in OK are much cooler than in Arizona. July and August are usually triple digits, and the humidity makes it worse. Fall and winter cool down a lot, though. It snows more than an inch or two maybe twice a year.
