I am looking to get my Chemistry 1211 book and is is $230 just to rent. Is that a normal price for this kind of book?
The only time any class has required over $200 from has been for the book(s) and some kind of online service.
In this case, it’s not worth it. I would recommend finding the book through other sources, if you can. The school bookstores sell books for ridiculous prices.
Is the textbook custom? Or is it a general textbook?
I do need the online subscription the book comes with for the homework assignments though. The cheapest used rental I could find was $200.

Yep, for Math/Science that price is common enough.
I just paid $138 for a used paperback Econ book that was cheaper because it’s a “Complimentary Copy - Not for Sale” copy.
If you need the online subscription code, be careful buying used books. They may not have the most recent code.
Textbooks can get very expensive if you’re also required to purchase the online subscription. I agree that you should be cautious when renting or buying used if you also need the online access code. Used or rented books may no long have an active code.
That’s fairly standard for science and math textbooks. It’s likely that you can find a used copy cheaper somewhere else.
Sometimes you can pay for the code, and then get the text book used (if you even need it). But yes, science and math books cost at least that. Some professors make an effort to co-ordinate with other prof and pick books that can be used for several semesters, but others don’t.
