Is it normal for male dogs er "private part" to sticks out frequently?

see post#6 and #9 Nighthawk. Thats 3 votes for outrageous thread title of 2011. That said, its kind of an ewwww.

And just heard the “lipstick” descriptions somewhere recently… can’t recall where. A movie perhaps?

eeeeeewww tx5… and who had to put the vaseline on??

Although it may sound funny, this is no laughing matter…and I am really trying to find an answer. Not to gross anyone out but our vet said that because it is out periodically, it can dry out and he can develop infections.

It seems that my vet is at a loss as to what to do - and I was hoping to get some advice here.

I get that this is kinda funny but I am in search of some real answers.

Well, being serious here- when it is out, what time frame are we talking about?

tx5, I would think rubbing vaseline would just make … it … stick out more.

Glad my cocker spaniel is a girl too. I agree, #1 title for 2011.

nysmile’s link to the yahoo answers thread gives a name for this (paraphimosis) and notes that this can be quite serious. I hope your dog gets better without having to have surgery!

“Glad my cocker spaniel is a girl too.”

Sounds like the OP’s dog has a little cocker spaniel in him, too.

Since this is CC, I’m waiting for a heated discussion about whether public parts are as good as private parts.

Oh, my Schmaltz, it’s a good think I wasn’t drinking coffee just now or I would have spewed it all over my keyboard! :)

I’m glad my “male Lassie” has long hair that covers up his lipstick!

maybe re-post on the pre-vet thread or on the vet school chatboard

LOL schmaltz and lima!!!

but am sorry for the poor dog.

Let’s all be thankful that the OP’s dog is not a Dachshund.

We also use the technical term “lipstick”. We say “Henry, put your lipstick away!” and then push him over so he is laying down and it goes away.

“Lipstick On Your Collie” was a big hit song years ago for I think singer Connie Francis.

^^^
Lol. That’s a visual I can do without!

I know that this topic can be comical…and I get that. But I am looking for a real answer to this problem. Anyone vets out there?

Did you try links posted earlier? If they didn’t help, here’s another that I use [Health community, health information, medical questions, and medical apps - MedHelp](http://www.medhelp.org).

Post # 25 had several very helpful responses. Did you get a chance to read through the yahoo answers?

With all due respect, perhaps if the thread title had been something like “Requesting assistance from a veterinarian” or something like that, you might have gotten some different responses or fewer light-hearted comments. Just sayin’ That said, you might have gottten fewer views than you did. The thread title was… err… eye catching.

away2school, I understand you’re trying to deal with a serious veterinarian problem for your dog. Please understand however, that those who are posting humorous comments are not withholding good information or assistance in favor of being funny. If we could help, we would. Those who have info via direct knowledge or links, are doing so. You can’t honestly expect people not to see the comical side, when you do yourself. Best of luck to you in finding help for your pup.
