I am a sophomore in hs, and I am planning on taking the ACT rather than the SAT Reasoning test because I worked on both prep books and ACT is much easier and logical than the SAT for me.

I am applying ED, so I wanted to be prepared by asking my counselor, AP teacher, and the testing director. They ALL responded in about the same way…shocked. They said it is “irregular for a student to want to take the ACT or the SAT” and that no student has taken the PLAN(pre-ACT test) in recent years. They seemed that taking the ACT is not a good idea for applying for college.
Is this true? Will the decision to choose the ACT over the SAT affect my chance of getting accepted?

Colleges love high test scores (bcos they report 'em), so a high ACT will beat a lower SAT EVERY time (all other things being equal). Yale even takes the ACT+W in lieu of SAT+Subject Tests. YALE!

btw: UC’s don’t care either, but do require 2 subject tests.
