I’m a freshman at a school 6 hours from home. So far my experience hasn’t been anything really fun or special, but it’s going alright. The main thing is I feel like I haven’t really settled into my place yet, and so I’m planning to work on that this semester by getting more involved.

The problem is, I still feel like I’m always a little too focused on home. I hang out with people at school and do stuff on campus, but I still find myself very actively thinking about my family, my hometown, and my high school friends a lot, even if I’m not really homesick. I’m always looking ahead to the next date that I visit home again.

It’s almost like I’m just biding my time at school… like instead of doing my work and socializing in order to get good grades and have fun, it’s more to just pass the time until I get to go home. I’m fairly settled with a routine and everything at school, but I just feel so far away from being able to call it home yet.

Is this normal?
