I wanted to apply to Umiami for my early decision, However I am seeking a significant amount of aid that would bring down my efc to 10k USD. Umiami is need aware, so is there any use of applying ED here?
I can’t speak for U Miami specifically, but often the university will defer to RD to evaluate all high need applications together.
If it’s your top choice and the NPC works to a figure you need, then sure.
The worst they can do is say no. If your amount of aid is the reason, ED or RD won’t matter.
ED doesn’t mean acceptance. It means if they accept you, that you are going. Miami defers a ton of kids - ED and EA.
Good luck.
Not really applicable for the OP
Please make note of the following special populations for whom the calculator may provide incorrect results.
International Students. The calculator is based on US income and expenses. While the University of Miami provides financial aid to international students, we use a separate analysis for this process, therefore final results will vary.
I don’t think its accurate but I have run it and it comes right around the ballpark.
I understand. The differed kids might be seeking aid like me too.
Thank you.
I’ll keep that in mind and save my ED.
Thank you.
Adding U Miami doesn’t meet full need for internationals.
Because they don’t have an NPC that works for internationals you could contact the FA office and ask if they would do a financial aid pre-read. It’s worth a try.
Good luck.
I am mailing them. probably they’ll ask specific details.
Thank you.
You absolutely can if the need-aware college you choose to apply ED to meets full need for internationals.
Your odds aren’t good and they may not have the budget… but at worst they’ll just defer your application to the RD round and from your applying ED they know you’re really interested and would come if they offer you sufficient aid.
With the caveat that “meets full need” is based on the university’s calculations, which may be less than the applicant thinks they need.
