I refer a little to complex numbers like ai+b. Do I have to add an explanation or should I just abandon the idea all together?

sorry, find x

Honestly, if it is creative and personal, it will work. Chicago gives students these prompts because it allows them to think out side of the box.

I say go for it–don’t make it so dense that it’s impossible to understand (i.e. talk about complex numbers in terms of Euclidean topology) but still retain the intellectual potential of your idea. I applied EA and wrote my “Why Chicago” essay completely in Elizabethan English…I guess they liked it :)

In my why Chicago essay I mentioned ground state electrons, orbitals, nuclear fusion, noble gases, catalysts, reaction rates, and particle accelerators. I got in. Go for it.
