Is it OK

… for one to go to a school’s admission office and drop their material instead of sending them via snail mail (faster and cheaper to walk to the school and drop this one thing) ?

Thanks a lot

Yes, but be sure you get a signed receipt form whomever you drop it off with, that you turned in whatever it is on whatever time & date. Sometimes it is just written on their business card or a memo pad or something.

^^ I would also follow up with a phone call in a day or two, just to be sure it got into the right person’s hands.

I would be wary of doing this. The school has procedures for accepting snail mailed documents and those sent online. But they may not have a procedure for accepting documents dropped off in person. The employee who receives your package may not know what to do with it.

Call them and find out what the process is for dropping it off.

My daughter visited her “yes” college one more time, and hand-carried her acceptance of admission/deposit, her acceptance of the honors college program and scholarship and her acceptance into the auditioned major (three different documents, three different people) to the school. For the admission doc, she went to admissions, and asked to watch while they entered her into the system, got a printed confirmation. With the honors college, since only 10 students receive this scholarship, she asked to meet personally with the dean to thank him, and handed her letter to him directly. With her major, again, she met with the director of the program, handed her “yes” to him (and loved his reaction when he walked her out to the main office to announce that she’d accepted). Another small divsion – only 8 females accepted into the competitive major, so less chance of getting lost in the crowd.

For my d, it was a really special day, and a definite “yes” by hand-delivering the materials (with the confirmation that the right person had each piece).

So…if you know where the form goes, and if you make sure to confirm that it got where it needs to be, it can work. It was an excellent closure for d, to celebrate her “yes”…and not worry that any of those pieces got lost in the mail!

Yes, do call and find out. If you don’t, and your package ends up missing, it can be a big problem. It’s always a problem when that happens but if there is a record and trail as to the delivery, it can make things a bit easier rather than your having dropped it off to some employee who was part time and is now gone or doesn’t exist.

mommafrog–How wonderful fro your daughter! She must have been on cloud nine!!
