Is it okay to withdraw from college half way through the semester?

My first goal was to become a doctor because I really wanted to have a career in the medical field. However I think I just said doctor A. to shut everyone up about what I wanted to do with my life. and B. because it pays well. As an incoming freshman I chose the school that I am attending because I was told about the med program which was supposed to be so amazing because they have deals with med schools that if I keep my GPA a certain height and take certain classes I would have early acceptance into med school and the MCAT will be waived. Now that I am a current student of this school I am finding that a lot of the amazing things promised are actually very untrue.
I am not nearly as happy here as I thought I would be and I do not want to stay somewhere that makes me miserable. My original plan was to finish this semester and transfer to community college to become a nurse and then get my BSN. Well now I am considering withdrawing now instead of waiting even though I am half way through the semeseter. The reason I want to withdraw now is not only because I am so unhappy here but also because I am not doing well in two of my courses even though I am doing everything I can to raise my grade including extra work, tutoring, and meeting with my teachers. I have until a certain date to withdraw from my courses with a grade of W which means that I will have no grade for the semester and therefore it will not affect my GPA. I guess my question is would it be better to withdraw now with a grade of w and start fresh somewhere else knowing that my GPA was not affected or stick out the semester and see what I end up with?

I’m in a similar situation. I went to my school for business, was granted access to a scholar program, and was completely misled about what this scholar program encompassed/how to remain a scholar. Now, I am thinking I want to switch to physical therapy. However, dropping out just seems like a waste at this point. The semester is already over halfway over. I personally am waiting out the semester at least before getting out of here. I would suggest you do the same, but it’s up to you in the end.

Whatever you decide, make sure you understand the financial ramifications. If you received any financial aid (grants, pell, seog, etc), you might be required to pay those grants back. Until you do, you could have trouble transferring. Dropping below full time could also trigger this. Talk to the FA office if this applies.

Definitely talk to your advisor to see all the ramifications.
Also talk to your parents.
If you Withdraw from every class, you have thrown the tuition away for the semester. If you are getting financial aid, you may have to pay it back if you don’t finish the semester. I think it is best if you can finish the semester.

Another possibility if you are taking say 15 credits, is to drop one of the hard classes and put all your effort into the other one and you will still have 12 credits and be full time.

Ask about what happens financially if you take all F grades? All Ws? A few Fs and a few Ws? Other final grade scenarios?

If you take all F grades, then your GPA will be 0.0. That GPA will follow you as you go to another college.
Why would another school want to take you if you have a 0 GPA?
