Is it possible to ask for additional financial aid from a school?

I got accepted into a boarding school in Connecticut and I was granted financial aid, but it’s not enough for my parents to cover for full tuition. Is it possible for us to ask for additional aid from the school? Is it also common among financial aid grantees to ask for additional aid? I’m an international student, so I’m new to all of this.

You can always ask. It does not mean that they will have it or be willing to offer additional aid to you.

You have already taken a gap year and left school due to financial issues. If you and your parents really want private school, they need to look for more affordable option.

If you plan on attending college in the US, perhaps you would be better served saving the money for private school, for college. As an international student your ability to pay will be a factor for for admissions in most colleges in the US (there are less than 10 colleges that are both need blind and will meet 100% demonstrated need for international student).

As Sybbie says, you can always ask. You can discuss the matter with them and if the bottom line is that you cannot come without additonal funds from the school, having exhausted all other possibilities, the school has to decide whether to give you the additional money or release you from your acceptance and offer your spot to someone else.

When you come here for educational purposes, you do have to list how you are going to pay for your costs on your visa application, so if you can’t afford to come here, you cannot legally do so.

Doesn’t hurt to ask, even though most schools won’t give you additional aid, unless your the top top applicant for their school.
