Can someone be a really good test taker, do well in school yet still be ditsy? I was having a debate with a friend over the context of “ditsy.” Your thoughts?

haha thats me!

typical dumb blonde with unusually high test scores

I’ve met a surprisingly large amount of girls like this.

That would be me.

Although “absent-minded” suits me better haha. Not intentionally, but it’s part of my personality I think. Atleast my mom thinks so.

I’m that way! It probably has something to do with my love for designer fashion and the way I present myself. Personally, I love surprising doubtful people with my knowledge.

Oh yeah, there’s this girl in my french class who is really good at french but she is SUCH an idiot about the world outside of school. She seems like such a dumb blonde, even though I know she’s good at least in our shared class.

Check here. I’d call myself more absent-minded than ditzy, and I trip a lot.

These truly “ditzy” intelligent people would have a hard time finding jobs even with their (self described by these “ditzes”) contradictory intelligence. I wouldn’t be too concerned with their skill sets if they can’t handle themselves in such a way that will gain them respect in academia.

lol wut

That is the best combo Especially if she’s into designer fashion and is gorgeous!

have you seen the OC? SUMMER>?

summer never successfully did anything but become a smelly hippie. this is coming from a very big OC fan.

of course. outside appearances dont mean everything. some girls even “dumb themselves down” and everyone has their blonde moments. stupid things tend to come out of my mouth more often than not.

in sophmore year HS chem a kid turned around after i asnwered a question and said “i thought all cheerleaders were stupid”. that one drove me crazy, id like to go back to him and list the colleges that my grad class on the squad went to. and around college application time people would say… “really? she is applying/got in THERE?” and its like yeahhh… whatever.

one of my best firends is a complete scatter brain who lacks any common sense or simple geography knowledge (honestly, sr eyar of HS she htought oregon was a shape). she is slgihty narcoleptic and most of the school thought she was high or cracked out 50% of the time. when college decisions some kids used her as an example saying “oh youll DEFINETLY get into NYU stern… i mean SHE got in” then someone else says… uhhh she had a 4.4 GPA. and theyre just like what? i thought she was an idiot waste.

hahah so summarized… yes. though i think my principle the more intelligent you get the less liekly you are to be ditzy. and you dont usually expect to see well spoken logical “smart-ish” kids in the lower level classes of HS. and since a lot of them are dtizy, its just assumed that ditzy=stupid

lol I think so… there are some realy smart people who are very stupid at the same time xD

An old, really smart, friend of mine acts like a ditz. A ridiculous amount of pink everywhere, and ‘dumbs herself down’ around a lot of people…

She’s going to a pretty decent school (not one usually talked about on here).

OKgirl took the words right out of my mouth! :)

There are a lot of different behaviors/traits that get called “ditzy”. I’ve heard the term used to mean dumb, bubbly, spacey, girly, silly, or some combination of the above. I guess the real answer might depend on how you’re using the word, but in general, I’d say so.

One of my close friends, Barbie (no, I’m not kidding), is all too happy to embrace her name. She’s bubbly, silly, a bit squeaky, somewhat spacey, very girly, and full of “blonde moments”. Oh, yeah…and she’s pursuing a (funded) PhD in biochemical engineering ;)

This particular case isn’t one of the girl intentionally dumbing herself down. Not even a little bit. I personally chalk it up to her just being very comfortable with herself. I went to an all-girls HS…every female stereotype you could think of was represented, and I can assure you that exceptional intelligence comes in lots of different packages.

I agree with IlikeDice that learning to present oneself professionally is important, but it’s worth remembering that this applies to everyone, “nerds” the same as “ditzes”. In Barbie’s case, she can pull herself together just fine, and some of the traits that might contribute to her “ditzy” image, including outgoingness and good social capability, are probably assets for her.

The other close friend who comes to mind when I think “ditz” is a Stanford student. Again, not a case of intentional dumbing down, although I’m sure that does happen. Simply a girl who happens to be a little spacey, insanely giggly, slightly scatter-brained, girly, squeaky, and by the way, a brilliant math student.

Whatever works. But again, I think it partially depends on what you mean by “ditzy.” It can be a negative quality, but I wouldn’t apply it that way to either of the above examples.

ARE U KIDDING.

u can’t find a ditzier person than me

summer never successfully did anything but become a smelly hippie. this is coming from a very big OC fan.

I know…but she did get into brown…

Yeah I’m an incredibly dumb blonde who happens to be in the top 4 percent of her class of 800. No common sense, good reading skills :)

example- i once looked through a five year calendar to see if my bday would ever be on friday the thirteenth. Five years later (well, in the calendar at least), i realized that it would never be so- my bday is march 22nd!
this from a girl who got a perfect 800 on ther literature sat…

Haha there are lots of girls at Yale who are blonde and attractive and like shopping, movies, parties, etc…and people assume that they’re stupid. Then they open their mouths in seminar and suddenly everyone realizes…wow they really are smart! Shows that appearances aren’t everything.
