The slider (of the zipper) of LL Bean’s jacket has come off completely. I have the slider. Any way to fix it? Hate to throw away perfectly good jacket.

You can buy a new slider (called a “pull”) for pennies; I know that Seattle Fabrics and the Rain Shed in the Seattle area used to sell pulls mail order and may still. Also, LL Bean offers a full warranty for that jacket. Call them.

If by “slider” you mean the handle for the zipper, that is easily replaced.

If you mean the integral part of the zipper that actually engages the “teeth” to form the interlocked bond that constitutes a closed zipper; seek warrenty relief . You should be able to get a service location from LLBean or a return authorization for UPS shipment.

If the jacket is out of warrenty, ask LL Bean for service vendors or Google it.

Doesn’t LL Bean have one of the best return policies on the planet?

I’m pretty sure LL Bean will simply replace the jacket. I just returned a duffle that D used on her 4 month “Amazing race” study abroad – the handle was starting to come unstitched. I thought maybe they would fix it – instead the Customer Service rep just said they’d send me a new one.

Having said that, I did recently replace the pull tab on a zip front sweatshirt – the whole metal pull just fell off. At first I thought I’d replace the entire zipper myself, but I couldn’t find a replacement – it was dyed to match the sweatshirt and an odd length. Instead, I found a package of replacement pull tabs at JoAnn’s. It was somewhat of a hassle – I had to partially rip out the zipper. And the directions on the package for how to do it were pratically worthless. But, I eventually figured it out. (Obviously I really like this sweatshirt!)

For years Campmor (mail order camping supplier) sold a zipper repair kit which included the slides, stops, even a few teeth, and detailed instructions. Try googling. I’m on my third kit, and have repaired what shops have told me needs a new zipper.

The zipper broke on my h’s favorite coat after he wore it for more than seven years. Sent it back to LLbean and they replaced the zipper. He still wears the coat and all it cost was postage. Well worth it, and endeared me to them. Needless to say I buy a lot from them.

Thanks all…I will try JoAnn. I liked motherof4pearls’ advice very much.

there is also a place in Fremont that REI sends their stuff to, I am not at home but I will look it up

There is an online store called Stan’s Sewing Supplies.
[zippers at Stan’s Sewing Supplies](http://www.stanssewingsupplies.com)

They have a section that is just zipper repair parts with some instructions about replacing sliders in that section.

I ordered a custom-made special-length zipper from them to replace the one in my H’s car racing suit. They did an excellent job with it, and it worked out just fine for my repair.

When a zipper fails, it’s usually the pull (yes, the part that engages the teeth). Pulls are inexpensive and easy to replace, contrary to what BigG says. One can buy zipper teeth by the yard, and pulls, and put them together to make zippers of whatever length (for duffles, or bags, or whatever else you might want).

But for LL Bean stuff, let LL Bean fix the jacket.

Another thought here. If by slider you mean the piece that on which the pull is attached, yes it can be replaced. When my children were younger they wore Lands End jackets for the winter. I always bought a neutral color and passed it down from sister to brother (and now the much younger cousins use them). One slide did come off somehow. I took it to the local dry cleaner who was able to replace the zipper. The suggestion to call LL Bean is the best.
