Is it possible to get accepted without discussing reasons for transfering?

I feel horrible, I answered the personal statements pretty well, but I neglected to mention reasons for transferring in depth …apart from one sentence. Are my chances of getting in now completely ruined? I’m an OOS…

Ohh, probably not. If they want you, they want you. They already know they’re the best. =D>

Did you answer the prompt? If you answered the prompt you’re fine

Which schools? UC Berkeley does explicitly state that it looks for reasons to transfer in the personal statement from 4 year college students and OOS community college students.

It is under the “Academic Achievement:” portion.

Yeah thats what I read which is why I’m worried…

I don’t know. First of all, as a OOS you’re at a real disadvantage, period. Not sure of your major, but assuming it’s a ranked dept and you talked passionately about your major, it’s going to be understandable why you want to go there without your saying it. I’m not sure they’d hold it against you. It depends on so many factors, esp GPA. Anyway, there isn’t anything you can do about it now.

I guess if there is a particular prof you like or something else, you could add it to comments in TAU. It wouldn’t hurt.

It will hurt your chances that you didn’t discuss it, but I’m sure plenty of people still transfer in from OOS even without discussing the reason.

Thanks everyone! I’ve had a lot of questions since being OOS not many people are in the loop with this stuff :stuck_out_tongue: btw I’m a chinese major!

I’m going to tell you my take. First of all, no one knows if it has hurt your chances or not. We don’t know your GPA or the contents of your essays or your ECs. Just because something is written doesn’t mean it is religiously followed across the board. I cannot tell you the number of applicants who waxed rhapsodic about their intended major in an essay and then at the last minute they changed the major on the application, so the stated major no longer matched the major in the essay - and they still got in to their UC (even Berkeley). There are variations of these things everywhere. I really think, as the list of priorities go, your not going into detail about why you want to transfer is not high on the list. You did say you mentioned it in a sentence. If you do not get accepted, I believe it will be more just general OOS vs this minor glitch.

In your favor, they are accepting more OOS for the revenue and I doubt there are a lot of ppl wanting the Chinese major (I may be wrong). So I wouldn’t put more into this than what it probably is. Your GPA and completion of major reqs are more relevant. Just my humble opinion, anyway.

Thanks, really nice input  I agree with you a lot!
