is it possible to get in with a 3.0?

a couple of other things i have going for me:

I go to a nationally renowned HS, so it might work in my favor
SAT scores were as follows:

CR: a little below 75th
M: way above 75th
W, if they consider it: above 75th

SAT II scores: 760+ in all that I submitted

everything else was fine to spectacular(imho): recs, essays, ec’s, etc.

mini-superlate chance thread?

Anything is possible. :)

Got in with a 2.7 UW, so you’re better off than me. =P

I’d say you have some hope. Can you give your actual SAT scores rather than the percentiles?

Did you have anything else going for you? Olympic athlete, for example?

Students,
SC uses a holistic method of admission. Everything is considered on the application. Many students have had to face challenges in their personal lives that do not show up in scores posted on a message board. At SC is an office set up to assist handicapped students in wheelchairs, partially blind, deaf or have other challenges.

Some students have had to work in family businesses over 40 hours a week and study well into the night. Others have had to nurse ill siblings or parents and still make fine grades.

Please give credit to the admissions committee that sees thousands of applications year after year and is building a diverse class. They read recommendations concerning private situations about applicants we cannot even imagine.

Keep in mind over 35,500+ seniors applied for the freshman class, but there are also transfer applications of roughly 8 to 10 thousand hopefuls.

Packets will still be received until April 1 and possibly later depending on the mail service.

@antonioray: I also applied and got into the cinema school with a massive game design portfolio. The hook in my general app was pretty much “Look at me, I’m a published and award-winning writer! Yaaay!”. But it was nothing out of the ordinary, so I’m pretty surprised I got in with my terrible GPA.

If you’re applying for a portfolio or audition based program you have a better chance.

My son’s GPA is 3.98/4.69 and it doesn’t look like he is getting in. I’m honestly somewhat shocked too.

^ USC isn’t a safe school for anyone these days.

A perfect illustration of what georgia girl said about USC’s holistic review process is the scattergram for USC on my son’s school’s Naviance, which displays decisions for the past five years. It shows both red (decline) and green (accept) mixed together, in all but the farthest reaches or upper right hand corner (tippy top GPA/SAT) and lower left hand corner (bottom GPA/SAT).

Virtually every other school we looked at has a much more distinct pattern of red below the mean and green above it. No other school as much red mixed in with the green, and visa versa, as USC.

Clearly, to their credit, USC is looking at more than just stats.
