Is it possible to get into UT with low stats?

Hello everyone I was just hoping I could get some honest advice about getting into UT. I have low stats but applied for a new liberal arts major. Help me out and give thoughts. Thanks!

Are you a Texas resident in the top 6% of your class? If not, UT Austin is not an easy admit.

How low? Do you know what your rank is in your high school (an approximate number is okay, if this is what you have)? Are you a resident of Texas?

If you can give us more information then you are more likely to get useful comments.

Hi yes of course! I’m 200 out of 800 something. I’ve applied to behavioral and social data science which is a brand new major in the college of liberal arts. Thank you so much for the help!

I also am a Texas resident!

What’s your GPA? What’s your test score?

I know if you don’t apply, you can’t get in.

They don’t show rank in the CDS so it’s hard to judge but one would presume it’d be very tough.

You can’t just apply to UT regardless - you won’t be top 5% (next year) - so you’ll need a balanced list. Definite reach.

I teach in Texas public high school. I think 200 out of 800 makes a weak application. One of my students was recently admitted to this major. With auto admit (top 2% out of about 800) she believed the chance of getting in CS was too slim so she applied for data science. My guess is there are quite a number of applicants like her. However, if you are in a highly competitive high school, and you have decent SAT score, your chance goes up. My observation about UT is that they don’t have time to conduct real holistic evaluations, thus rely heavily on stats - GPA, course load, SAT, competition awards, etc.
