I am a freshman who was assigned to fairfax apartments which is pretty far from campus. Is there any possible way to get a dorm someplace on campus? I really don’t to live off campus. Is it possible to switch rooms with someone else?

Ah, the classic “I don’t like where I’m living” problem.

In general, no, you can’t get it changed easily. As you can imagine (and deduce from your own feelings), on-campus dorms are in high demand and are already filled. When spaces open up (due to people moving into frats, for example) they’re used to get people out of temp housing.

One possibility you have is to find someone on-campus who wants to live in Fairfax, and see if you can get them to trade with you. This trade has to be agreed upon by your RA, their RA, your roommate, their roommate and both of you. Plus, you have to deal with Housing Services, which is never a walk in the park.

You won’t get put in a new dorm with a doctor’s note for allergies, but you will get permission to get an air conditioner installed in your room. At least that’s how it has worked in the past.

I did… that is how I got Resnik as a sophmore and New House as a freshman.

i’m a freshman living in fairfax, too. i don’t think it’s going to be too bad. it’s only 10-15 minutes away from campus. and there’s buses and shuttles if you’d prefer, i think.

About a 10-minute walk to get to the Forbes-Morewood intersection from Catman. From there, it’s about 10 more minutes at the very most to get to any academic building on campus.
