Hi! I’m currently a sophomore in highschool and is wondering if is it possible to have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a career in the Forensic Field?
Edit: I might also be interpreting “forensic field” incorrectly – can you define?
Civil engineers design and oversee the construction of infrastructure, like buildings, roads, bridges, etc. Sometimes these things fail – a bridge might fall down, for example. When infrastructure fails, the consequences may be fatal and expensive, so huge civil lawsuits often follow. In that case, the lawyers will hire civil engineers to conduct forensic investigations of the failure.
One consulting firm that is known for this type of work is Exponent (formerly Failure Analysis Associates). Their web pages on “Civil Engineering” or “Buildings and Structures” might be of interest:
Exponent employs civil engineers to investigate failures of infrastructure. They probably look for very experienced and qualified professionals; it might not be the kind of job that you get fresh out of college with a BS degree. Their Civil Engineering staff web page might be of interest:
