Is it possible to hear back before march?

I’m out of state and was wondering if there’s anyway i could hear back before march. I’ve been checking the application website everyday and was wondering if I’m simply wasting my time. I know it’s a long shot getting in because I am not a resident but if it makes a difference my stats are
SAT: Math 780 Reading 700 Writing 620
SAT II: Math 2 710 Lit 620
AP: AP Lang & Comp 5, AP US 4

You’re not a longshot at all. The mean SAT for UCSB was WAYYY below yours. I’m also OOS and recently talked to an admissions counselor this past Tuesday and she said (and I’m paraphrasing) “It’s funny you bring that up. We’re going to try and take a bit more from OOS because it we want a more diverse community with kids from other states as well. Also we’re trying to get rid of the reputation of just taking California residents and no OOS kids.” Seriously though, with your scores I’d say with those alone you have a VERY good shot at getting in.

If you get accepted as a Regents Scholar, then you will hear during the first week of March or a little before.

I guess that’s one way to spin it!

The UC system announcement, though, said they were doing it because of the budget crunch and saw OOS tuition as a way to bring in more money. See, for example, the Daily Cal article [UC Looks to Out-of-State Students to Help Ease Budget Shortfall - The Daily Californian](http://www.dailycal.org/article/106421/uc_looks_to_out-of-state_students_to_help_ease_bud)

^^Exactly. Nevertheless, case in point is that they’ll be taking more OOS this year which should be good for the OP

But that would most likely apply to UCLA and Cal. Other UC’s are really doing this as much as UCLA and Cal are.

does anyone know that if we got that invitation to meet with the chancellor for “high achieving applicants” we’re in?

Yep. Chancellor’s Reception invite means that you’re in. But if you didn’t get the invite, it doesn’t mean that you won’t be accepted. Invitations go to Regent’s and Honor’s Scholars. It’s a nice reception, and you should attend if you can. Last year, they only had two locations, one in SoCal and one in NorCal. My son and I attended last year and it really pumps you up for UCSB, if you are slightly undecided.

haha can you attend with out and invite, just crash it?

One more thing, I never received notification of any Regents scholarship so does that mean I didn’t get it? Or do they tell us at the reception?

My son received Regents Scholar in the mail a few weeks ago.

@Mom: Will we be notified that we were admitted into the honors program when we are admitted only or should we have been notified already?
