I got an 1110 on my first sat (March 2018). I want to take it again in june. For some of the schools I am interested in, I need a 1400+. Is it realistic to think I could raise it by that much with a tremendous amount of practice?
I don’t think it’s realistic to get higher than a 1400 from an 1110 unless for some reason your 1110 was a complete fluke. You should aim for and study for it, but don’t expect much higher than a hundred point increase. There are definitely some kids who can make that jump though so try your best. I’ve made a 1280, but I’m studying as though I’m aiming for a 1600 (I’m hoping for a 1380).
Study for a 1600, aim for a 1400+, expect lower. I wish you the best of luck.
I didn’t have time or the energy to study for it. So, I’m thinking I’ll be able to raise it a lot higher with a large amount of studying this time.
By June? Get The Black Book. That’s your best chance for self-study.
That is a big jump! In less than 2 months. Without knowing you personally it would be hard to say…get to studying!
I want to take the biology and chemistry sat’s, so I need time to take those too. Do you guys recommend me taking the act first in july to see if I can do a lot better on that?
You wrote in another thread that you had a 1040 on the PSAT in 10th which is entirely consistent with the 1110 on the SAT in 11th. If you are serious about getting in to schools where a 1400+ is pretty much required, then you should really forget about taking the SAT this June, and spend the next five or six months prepping like crazy for an SAT date in the fall.
An 1110 to 1400 jump is quite large. In my opinnion, the best way to study is to practice the grammar rules and the english section. I feel like if you know the rules of grammar, you can improve your score in that section a lot. To improve your reading section, read the articles such as the wall street journal on a daily basis. It is also helpful to read historical documents and scientific articles. Reading short articles like the ones on the SAT and being able to extract the main ideas and supporting details from them is a key skill.
For the math, just do math. If you understand math well, you will do well on the math.
From my experience, I think that a 100 point improvement on each section is a reasonable goal (meaning 1110—> 1310.
I got a 1330 on my first PSAT as a sophmore and a 1540 on my SAT. Through studying, I was able to raise my score 100pts on each section.
It is interesting to note that some people have different rates of growth as a student. Soem people struggle to improve after their first test, while for others (like me), grow intellectually throughout high school which helps their score.
Good luck!
