For example, on the summer 2011 calendar, classes begin and the registration period ends on Monday, May 2. Could I register that morning? I emailed this question to advising so I might hear back from them in a few days, but does anyone have experience doing this?

Hi, I’m a Peer Advisor here at Pitt. You are able to register for summer classes up until the first day. Your registration date will depend on which summer session you will be enrolling for. There are full term, 12-week, 6-week and 4-week sessions, all spread throughout May-August. Here’s a link of important dates for each individual session:

[2008 Summer Sessions Calendar](http://www.summer.pitt.edu/calendar.html)

When you look up your summer course, it should indicate which session it will be offered. As the link shows, you can register up until the first day of the class regardless of which session you enroll for. However, it’s always encouraged to sign up for your course(s) as soon as possible due to limited space.

I hope this helps!

Cool thanks. You responded faster than the Advising Center :)

By the way, would you happen to know how many credits are required to be considered a full-time student during the summer? I’m planning to attend both 6-week sessions. Would I be full time if I took 6 credits for each 6-week session?

The other thing to keep in mind with registration is that a course can be canceled if not enough students register.

Six credits in a short summer session is full time, but most things that require you to be full time do give you the summer off.

Hi again,

To be considered a full-time student during the summer, you would still have to take a total of 12 to 18 credits. Most students choose not to take this many classes during the summer, but if you wanted to, it is possible. You could take two classes during the first 6-week session and then two classes during the second 6-week session, if you wanted.
