Is it really a great idea to do what you like?

When asking what to major or what career to pursue people always tell you to do what you love. Well, I really love to watch TV, sleep, and go on the internet. Can I really make a career out of that? I think the best advice is to do what you can tolerate most and what will provide you with a comfortable life. I would really love to go into journalism or architecture, but how many people do you see who really succeed and earn large incomes in those fields? Plus, many of those jobs in journalism are saved for caucasians and ex-athletes. Thoughts?

Finally someone with common sense on this bored. There is a job that Lazy boy chairs has for testing out new recliners, but it only pays like six bucks an hour. If you go into jounrnalism, be prepared to slave away for at least 10 years for under $15,000 a year as you build up your experience. Even then you might not make it. Alot of people love to write, this being the reason being the field being very competitive. Architecture is not a bad field, very competitive also, not that well paying either, and you need to get your masters before you can even think about a job.

All that being said, it is just easiest to marry a rich chick and become a trust fund baby. Or do exactly what you said in your fourth sentence down:

‘I think the best advice is to do what you can tolerate most and what will provide you with a comfortable life.’

Good luck (there is always the military for journalism I forgot)

Some people make a load of money but are miserable because they don’t like their job.

Go be an entrepreneur. You can do what you enjoy with all your freedom and, if you work hard, make a lot of money too.
