Is it really common not to like eating the end piece or crust of the bread?

I don’t like plain bread; don’t really like bread.
I will eat toast, though, and the ends of commercial brand, pre-sliced are simply great for that.

Growing up, the ends were definitely for my grandmother’s few-times-a-year bread pudding, a southern dish which bears no likeness to pudding at all, but to a raisin and rum colored bread. Yum!

My mother loved the ends for her hamburgers, which she always topped off with a big ole nasty (to a kid) slice of raw onion.

I do not believe I have ever cut the ends off of the bread for any of my children, nor have they asked.

omg… Sometimes I dream about the bead puddings of my southern childhood. All the recipes were top secret and these days I’m just guessing that was because of the rather amazing amounts of alcohol involved.

eta… Most of those Bible belt Baptist cooks were teetotalers
