I have decided to apply RD to Brown (my guidance counselor thought it might prove to be more in my favor to be compared to the wider, RD pool, rather than the generally high-achieving ED pool), and have been working on the supplement. My question is, will I look really dumb if I talk about being part of the Harry Potter fan base for the supplement question, “We all exist within communities or groups of various sizes, origins, and purposes; pick one and tell us why it is important to you, and how it has shaped you.”? I want to mention something literary/writing-related, because that part of me hasn’t come up very often in the rest of my application. Even if it’s written amazingly, will it look lame?

You are questioning you’re asking this question to a group of people who have no idea who you are.

You’re applying to Brown.

Emma Watson goes to Brown.

Do the math?

Some colleges were/are teaching Harry Potter classes…

There’s no stupid topics. Only potentially stupid essays. Which I am sure yours will not be, if you write it well, and your particular voice comes through. Good luck.

I heard this rumor that when Emma Watson answers a question in class correctly, everyone says “that 's one for Gryffindor!”

you can… but make sure it evolves into something more substantial towards the end of it.
