IS it safe to drive a 11 yrs old car on freeway, mountain, etc?

I am driving a 2000 Honda Accord, 220,000 miles, before I can buy a new car.

Is it safe to drive a 11 yrs old car on freeway, mountain, etc?

thx

It depends on what condition your car is in and how recently you’ve done work on it. I drive my 1999 car on the freeway and I’ve driven it in Lake Tahoe (mountains obviously) without any problems. However, my car only has about 145,000 miles and it had its timing belt replaced at 120,000. It’s really gonna be a judgement call, but if you’ve had any mechanical problems recently I’d say stay away from mountains but the freeway should be fine.

Wrong forum.

If you have regularly serviced and maintained your Honda, the answer is yes. Other makes, idk.

Any car that’s regularly serviced is safe to drive on a freeway, even if it’s 30 years old. 11 years isn’t really even an old car.

We drive our cars until they die and need to be shot next to the road … for a well maintained Honda or Toyota 11 years is typically nothing (and well maintained pretty much means change the oil regularly)

My car is 19 years old, a 1992 Toyota Camry. It runs fine, because my dad took good care of it. So it really depends on how well it was maintained.

Maintaining is not just regular oil changes, especially with that many miles. Timing belt will have needed to be replaced, probably twice by your milage. Brakes, tires and fluid levels need to be checked regularly, in addition to oil, just not as often. (Oil change every 7,500 miles or so)

My car’s 13 years old ('98 ford escort) and wasn’t running when i bought it a little over a year ago. However, i had my mechanic cousin take a look at it and it runs pretty good now. My dad also does a good job of maintaining it.
