Is it too late?

I graduated salutatorian of my high school with a gpa of 4.09, and I did not apply for any academic scholarships because in the fall I was rank 3/230 kids. On the last few report cards I moved up. I have completed my first year of college already. I do not know if I would have even received an academic scholarship through my university because my family is in a good financial status, but I was wondering.

Most scholarships aren’t based fully on class ranking or GPA anyway, although a higher GPA can help.

Many colleges automatically consider all frosh for merit scholarships, but there is often an admissions application deadline you have to meet. You should look at your school’s website for specific info on their merit scholarships.

You could search for outside scholarships if your college grades are good. Some are available to sophs. But some colleges will just reduce your need based aid by the scholarship amount, so that doesn’t always help you. You need to ask you college FA office about their policy. If you aren’t receiving any FA, that is not a problem. But outside scholarships can be quite competitive. You might contact your HS counselor to ask if they know if any local scholarships available to more than frosh.

Sometimes departments at colleges award scholarships to students in those majors that go to non-frosh, too.

Look into the departmental at your college. They will NOT use your HS class ranking, but rather will use your college grades and such.

I would advise against applying to art schools but rather to look at universities and LACs that offer strong art programs.
Can you take extra community college art classes over the summer?

@MYOS1634 is your post 3 for this thread?

Shoot, no - no idea how it ended up there, it was meant for a poster wondering about art school without an art background!
Thank you @thumper1

Thank you everyone for your replies, I’ll look into discussing this with the FA for my uni.
