I am from Dublin,Ireland and am thinking of going to a boarding school in the USA
The school I am interested in is a 5 day boarding school in Pittsburgh,PA
I have a good friend in Zelienople,PA(30-40 mins away) who went to my school in Ireland
Is it too much to ask can I stay with them most weekends?
They said yes but really what are they thinking(The family is a dad,mother,2 daughters and my friend, the son)
I am a mature, independent and also low maintenance kid

Why don’t you offer them $150-$200/month for you to room with them the approx. 8-10 days/month to defray food and utilities costs.
Insist they accept the money as rent.
You will need to be in their home on school holidays if you can’t stay on campus.
Still very generous of them to welcome you into their home.
Tip: don’t bring your dirty laundry home, wash them at school.
Low maintenance is good.

well i was hoping I could pay them back with a few Steelers tickets
would that work for a big football family?

However, my big obstacle is actually my dad
He thinks it is too much to ask even though they said yes when I informally asked them
They thought of it as having another son
What can I say to my dad that will convince him

I think your dad is right.

I don’t think that you can convince your dad. If, however, the parents of that family really don’t think you’d be an imposition, they could contact your dad and let him know.

After having the time to think about what it would mean to have you virtually every weekend during the school year, however, the parents may have changed their mind. Having an occasional weekend visitor is very different than having someone visit for each weekend.
