Is it too risky to...

Is it too risky to take a stab at something like Fox News for throwing out its journalistic bona fides? It’s a joke (well not really a joke) in my Stanford essay, but I don’t want to lose admission by offending the reader. I imagine there are a good number of liberals in Stanford since it’s a top-tier university and in California, but I just want to be safe. Should I go ahead and leave that part out in that off chance that I get the ONLY conservative in the entire state reading my application?

Most political remarks made by high schoolers are glib, superficial, and generally not kosher for essays IMHO. When in doubt of anything, always err on the side of caution.

All I say is: “Maybe there’s an alternate universe out there where Fox News retains its journalistic bona fides.” I mean, it is the truth…it’s not necessarily a political remark.

i have to agree with wayward_trojan. throwing a glib comment that doesn’t necessarily accomplish what an essay needs to do, has little to do with liberal or conservative but judgment.

It doesn’t seem like it’s really necessary in your essay. Furthermore, I know plenty of conservative students and professors at Stanford. CA isn’t as liberal as a lot of OOS ppl think (no, not even UCB!).
