Is it too soon to visit home?

So I’m a freshman at the University of Tampa in Florida, which is 1000+ miles away from my hometown in Northern New Jersey. Obviously this was a very big step for me and a difficult decision to move so far from home. I wanted to escape home and be independent, but I knew it’d be tough being SO far from home, my friends/boyfriend, my pets and my family and knowing I couldn’t make a quick car ride home if I felt homesick made me struggle with my decision to come here. Despite my doubts, I decided it’d be best for me to try new things and go for it. Now i’ve been here for 4 weeks and even though it’s tough to adjust, I’ve made some friends and have been having a pretty good time and am doing well with school. However, I’m suffering from incredibly bad homesickness, which I know is normal but it seems a little much than what’s normal. I’m going to be going home for a few days for Thanksgiving at the end of November, but because I miss home so much and the airfare is relatively cheap, I decided to visit home for about 5 days in a couple of weeks. I think that waiting 2 months to be home in Nov is a little long for me to wait and that this extra visit home will help keep me happy while I’m down here and not missing home so incredibly much. Is this a good decision? Am I going to be visiting home too much? I feel like if I was closer to home I’d be visiting a lot more often which at that point would it be bad for my adjusting to college, but I don’t think this extra trip home is that big of a deal. Just wanted to know some others thoughts/advice/experience to calm my mind. :))

If you have a break from school that is fine. But if you have to miss class, don’t do it.

I agree with @intparent. Also, be aware that you risk regressing in your level of coping with your homesickness. But, if you mentally prepare for this possibility you can work towards mitigating it.
