Is it true that grading at Cornel is awful?

Do you happen to know the average gpa?

there is a post in another thread going on here. It looks like cornell is one of the lowest of the ivy league schools in terms of average grade if you look at the link posted by norcalguy and switch the URL with the names of other ivys. I am not so worried about the lower grades that cornell seems to give out on average, I am more worried about whether grad schools know and give consideration to an applicant coming from cornell because of the lower grades. I don’t know if that can even be figured out. If you get any info please post it here.

This would not affect you at all if you had good grades. Average GPA is 3.4ish here as said by Norcal. 2nd lowest next to Princeton in terms of ivy medians, but not far from the rest of the group.

I think most grading at Cornell is pretty fair … most medians of classes are in the B/B+ range [unless you’re in pre-med or engineering classes, where more medians are B-]

This is very dependent on what classes you’re taking. They stopped publishing median grade reports which people would use when choosing classes. I once had a linguistics major friend say that she would never take a class with a median grade lower than an A- whereas I had to take several classes to be pre vet that were curved to a B-. In those situations, GPA’s generally go up after you complete the “weed-out” classes like gen chem and get up to higher level things. That said, I applied to vet schools with a 3.14 Cornell GPA and was offered places at 2 of the schools I applied to.

Also, OP, I think the fact that you attended Cornell (just as if you attended any other ivy league school) will help balance out your gpa when applying for jobs/graduate school.
