<p>I know a few people who claim that on their letters from Lawrenceville, where they were waitlisted, there was a handwritten note on the top saying that they were in the Top 10. Could this be true?</p>

<p>I don’t know…those people might have been trying to sound more impressive by saying that even though they were rejected they were still really close to acceptance…I’ve never heard anything about a top 10.</p>
<p>I don’t think there would be a “top 10” because I think acceptance off the waitlist depends on more who doesn’t come.</p>
<p>I mean, say you accepted a star lacrosse player and they decided to come. You wouldn’t want to replace them with violinist, but perhaps another star lacrosse player. Does that make sense?</p>

<p>An admissions head who is a friend of mine tells me that there cannot be a prioritized waitlist because they draft for slots. If they need a girl in grade 9 it doesn’t do any good to take a 10th grade boy off the list.</p>

<p>some of the lawrencville waitlist letters actually said something like, due to the large applicant pool, it is not likely that you will be offered a spot…so to look at other schools. This is true.</p>

<p>deepsy - did you actually see the handwritten note on the lawrenceville letter that indicated they were in the top 10? If so, this is very interesting. I think the lville admissions people there are trying their best to be helpful in a potentially awkward situation. However, I think it would be better if they just outright rejected the people on the bottom of the list. I mean, why send a wait list letter at all if you’re going to soften it with “it isn’t likely that you will get in” anyway. How many people are wait listed generally that actually do get in?</p>

<p>We weren’t sure how to take this actually, your response is true but then again, maybe they were just trying to be honest and help out. What to you think of the posts that claim that the letters had a penciled remark about being in the top 10?</p>
<p>Lawrenceville doesn’t rank the wait list… it says so on their website, and i don’t think they would lie…
However, I was waitlisted at Lawrenceville and my letter did say that i would be one of the first people accepted if someone dropped out.
I was waitlisted at all three of my favorite schools… SPS, Hotchkiss, and Lawrenceville. Im so fustrated! I really don’t mean to sound cocky, but i got a 99% on the SSATs, I have straight A+'s at the private school I currently attend, I play tennis, softball, soccer, I swim, I play piano and flute, I do a TON of community service…volunteer at science camps, history museums…etc.etc.etc…also I co-authored a scientific paper that was published in a peer-review journal…and when I was 10 years old I published a children’s book about Freedom. I have also entered a bunch of writing contests, and I won multiple medals in Science Olympiad competitions.
WHY WASNT I ACCEPTED!!! AHHHH! I know it was because I come from a middle-class family, and my family would never be able to donate millions to the schools…</p>
<p>beanaparker, you should have gotten in! I know a girl who got into Lawrenceville who only plays one sport, doesn’t have straight A’s, and got 89% percentile on the SSATs. She’s not rich, either. You definitely deserved her spot!</p>
