I was talking to a friend that I really wanted to get into NYU, and they basically scoffed in my face and said the only way I’m going to get in is if I have a lot of connections. Is this true?

NYU has about 40K students, and they accept much more than that. Every. Single. Year. Your friend is wrong.

False.

Even for those with connections, you still need 3.7+/2000+ for NYU to be better than a reach.

Your friend just enjoys seeing you get upset.

Having connections does make acceptance into NYU–and for that matter, any college–a bit easier. :-)

With that said, a student probably doesn’t “need” connections to be admitted. Which school are you looking into? Can you handle the academic demands of the institution? Those questions must also be asked.

We need to see your academic file…
