Is it true...

Is it true that if you can get into the University of Michigan you can get into Northwestern? This has been the topic of many discussions among most of my friends, with no one ever coming to an agreement.

No. There. The end.

Thanks, I did not think so as it is obvious that they are both on rather different levels. Anyway, I did get into Michigan and I hope I get into Northwestern!

hey, me too!

but i must agree, it doesn’t mean anything

I agree. I got into UMich too–the thing is, it’s much larger and a little less selective than NW, and with the 18% increase in applicants this year, admissions at NW should be even harder.

I hope so since I got into UM and also applied for NU

Heres to hoping since I got into umich too. But its more like the other way around, if you can get into northwestern, you can get into umich.

http://www.northwestern.edu/newscenter/stories/2007/03/state.html

Everything thus far seems to suggest this year’s admission is the most competitive ever. It seems hard to believe the EDs (accepted = enrolled) have such high average though. On the other hand, 1444 (1463-19) sounds about just right as the average SAT of freshmen accepted last year (the average of the enrolled is probably slightly over 1400).

NO.

Northwestern -
SAT verbal scores over 600 92%, SAT math scores over 600 94%, ACT scores over 24 96%, SAT verbal scores over 700 53%, SAT math scores over 700 63%, ACT scores over 30 69%

Michigan -
SAT verbal scores over 600 70%, SAT math scores over 600 86%, ACT scores over 24 94%, SAT verbal scores over 700 21%, SAT math scores over 700 43%, ACT scores over 30 38%

(These are 2005 figures so the difference is probably even greater for this year’s class.)

Hate break it to you, but I know several people from last year who got in to the University of Michigan and rejected from Northwestern.

but at the same time, one of my friends got in ED to northwestern and then was deferred at umich. go figure. i think a lot of it also has to do with how early you get your app in for umich, because the earlier you get it in, the better chance you have.

Not to mention how you sell yourself. If you are more passionate about one, you may have a better shot simply in the way you express yourself in the application.

i got into nu WCAS ed this year, and was deferred, though for a special program, at umich. I think part of it was that my grades were sub-par due to some extenuating circumstances, which nu probably paid more attention to than umich, which has so many apps it may not have even read my additional essay.

yeah, other way around, if you get into northwestern, it is very likely you will be accepted at UMich

Let’s update this thread a little. Is it true if you were accepted to WashU in St. Louis you will be accepted to Northwestern? I am so excited to know I am in at WashU and am anxiously anticipating my letter from Northwestern!

Wow…you poor souls must be in agony.

hey jbug same here!! do you know where you’ll choose to go if you get into both? i really have no idea anymore…hehe :)

Well, let me know if you guys have any questions about NU. I graduated a couple of years back and can give you at least one perspective on the experience.

Good luck, all.

EditorinChief88-It will be a hard decision. At WashU I was put into the January program, don’t know if you have heard of it. Basically I would not start until January:(. I would love to be admitted to Northwestern as it would give me two great options. I just have to wait and see.
