For a Questbridge applicant with super low GPA (~3.2), top notch extracurriculars, 2300+, publishing novel, cured cancer (jk) to even pass the first round of cuts in the application process?

hmmmm

GPA is a really important factor. maybe if you’re a minority?

yes but unfortunately not urm

Same situation. Only difference? I’m realistic. (I’ll probably end up transferring to another school, not Princeton because of their ******** policy :()

its very tough to say. Princeton does have like 1% of its class in your gpa area. The question is if you ECs just SOAR above everyone elses, like you gpa sinks under. But compensating and coming out with a balance isn’t the same as coming out positive, if you see what i mean.

However, i would say you have as good a shot as most chancers… no one knows if these places actually do it holistically like they say or cut people out automatically within 5 secs of reading when they see GPA. However, I wouldnt be surprised if you managed to get waitlisted or even in, because you seem like you would write unique essays, have unique recs, and stand out. But if I had to put money on you or against you, I’d put it against you.

You never know what could happen. So, just apply, and wait to find out.

personally, I wouldnt because you dont seem to have a good chance, but if you want to spend 60+$ to see if princeton plays chance, be my guest

What do you mean transferring? Does that assume that you are getting accepted, enrolling and then transferring?

What do you mean by ******* policy? Why be negative? Negativism shows in applications and is treated as such.

look around decision threads. there are so many 2300+s with stellar extracurriculars who get rejected. you need to do a exceptional job on the essays and ur recs must rave about u

what is questbridge? i don’t think i’ve heard of it (or maybe i’ve heard of it at one time, but i can’t remember what it is exactly)

Peytoncline: Questbridge is basically a program that matches students from low income families with top schools in the nation

it would be free and i would just use the Questbridge application. thanks for all the help!

nick,
i think you really summed it all up. I’ll let you know if you lose that money. lol :)

what kind of ec’s can make up for a 3.2 gpa?

Science Olympiad gold medalist, USAMO national first place, Intel Research national winner, FBLA national first place, DECA national first place, BPA national winner of several competitions, All American Academic team, Academic Decathalon winner, international president for key club, etc.

yeah…there are only a few that can make it up,
I would say all international olympiads, international instrumental, something international;
in other words something that took you 7 years to master (I exagerate) and then use and you learn the value of trying and never giving up, etc…
there is not too much of those though

what does “something international” mean? (srry bout being so clueless lol)

i was thinking setting up own business, getting novel published, and maybe ending world hunger while i was at it…

seriously, look at the EC thread. You don’t have to be superhuman. Several different types of kids get in…whether you’re all sciency, or you’re well rounded.

What matters to make the first cut though? Do you think a low SAT (600s) would not make it?

with my gpa, it seems that i would need superhuman traits to get in
