is it unproductive for college students to be voraciously reading for fun?

I feel guilty doing so. shouldn’t I be allocating that energy back towards my course work? or clubs? or becoming the next zuckerberg?

It’s unproductive for college students to be voraciously playing video games for fun.

Leisure reading builds up reasoning, writing style, vocab & cultural skills.

Nothing fun is unproductive. If you don’t blow off steam somehow you BECOME unhappy and unproductive.

Sure there are “fun” things that are unproductive and downright destructive. Doing drugs come to mind.

Go read a book.

It’s very clear that doing drugs and playing video games are not at all the same type of thing. Read a book, play a video game – and nobody should care which.

It’s only a problem is you’re doing it instead of fulfilling responsibilities, such as homework. If you’re reading so much that you’re not making friends or taking advantage of opportunities that are unique to your situation, you may want to think about that. But reading overall is a wonderful way to relax and escape.
