Is it usually easy to transfer between schools within a university?

Many schools I’m applying to like NYU and Georgetown have schools within them (Stern, McDonough, Steinhardt, etc.)–I’m thinking of going into education but if I change my mind, is it usually easy to transfer to a different school?

Are there any universities widely known for not being easy in facilitating transfers between schools?

Anyone…?

Ease of transfer varies from school to school. I think you have to contact each school directly to find out their policies.

NYU, can be kind of funny because they have different admission requirements for the transfer process at all of their schools.

Students must be enrolled in the division to which they were originally admitted for one full year before they may transfer to another division.

Each school within NYU accepts a different number of transfer credits. Some schools and departments will allow you to transfer 64 credits to NYU while other schools and departments will only allow you to transfer 30 credits to NYU. Please check with your individual school to see how many credits you are allowed to transfer in.

For example if you are a first semester freshman, anywhere, you can not apply as a transfer to the College of Arts & Sciences spring term of Freshman year.

At NYU, they will not allow you to transfer to Stern if you came to then as a transfer student.

Internal transfer applications must be filed with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions early in the semester preceding the desired transfer. Students who are accepted by April 1 for internal transfer in the fall are entitled to participate in the early registration programs of the undergraduate division to which they are transferring.

Thank you for all your help!
