is it weird to go to csu long beach after graduating from ucla

i’m getting my b.a. in art history from ucla and i was thinking about grad school. it looked like my chances for the grad prgm’s at ucla and usc is very slim, so i was thinking of applying to csu long beach for m.a. because i heard it had a good art program. will this be a stupid or unwise decision? csu long beach seems to me the best choice in terms of costs…going out of state will cost me rent…and uci has no art history prg. ucr is too far… any thoughts?

My DD did a masters at a similar school after getting her BS at a UC, she is now off to a PhD at a well-reputed school. It can be done; it may not be the usual path, but if you are planning to pursue a PhD it is all about fit, so your masters would need to provide you an improved profile in whatever you feel was ‘missing’ from your current situation:
Improved GPA
Research or whatever comparable thing is needed in art history
My DD did no research as an undergrad, she did numerous presentations and such plus worked with three different profs on their research, she was able to illustration to PhD profs that she knows what research is and is still interested
