<p>ask a summer school prof(different school) for a recommendation if you havent participated in his class(i.e. ask questions, finish his sentences, volunteer, discuss problems with classmates, etc.), but you’ve done very well in his classes(A for both)?</p>
<p>Anyway…theres just a few more weeks of his class, so is there anything you suggest I do in the meantime? </p>

<p>Since there’s time left in the class, you should take a more active role from now until the course ends. Then your prof can write about not only your top grades but also your contributions to the class overall. Admission officials are always looking for students who will be good community members, not just scholars.</p>
<p>I would also visit his office hours. </p>
<p>Take a look at the Transfer Admissions 101 thread. There is a series of posts there about ways to get to know your profs better. Not all will appeal to you, but some should and you should try them.</p>

<p>I agree with JC. The point of the rec isn’t to determine how well you’re doing in the class, that’s what the transcripts are for. The prof rec is to differentiate between the students who are actively participating and adding to the classroom experience, and the kids who just show up and get As because they’re smart, but don’t really play along. </p>
<p>Also, in the average classroom, 20% of the students have As anyway. Good grades don’t always translate into good recs.</p>
